Battle of the Bands Contest Official Rules

 

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

1. To enter the contest, local bands who want to be considered must register online at post-gazette.com/pittsburghrocks between May 16 and May 29, complete all requested contact information, submit a photo of the band (color or black and white), and upload an mp3 file of an original song. Only (1) one original song may be submitted for consideration. Only official online entries will be accepted.

2. This contest is open to bands/band members who live in the 13 Pennsylvania counties within the Pittsburgh DMA: Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Beaver, Clarion, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Employees of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, contest sponsors, franchises, licensees, parent companies or subsidiaries, and their immediate family members are not eligible.

3. Entries must be received by 5 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2008. Incomplete entries will be deemed null and void.

4. All mp3 entries submitted will be reviewed through FRIDAY, MAY 30 by the post-gazette.com and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette contest producers and music team. Bands already performing at the Arts Festival are ineligible. Bands will be judged on musicianship, songwriting, presentation and originality. Songs with explicit lyrics or that promote violence, abuse or racism will be disqualified. Decisions are final on all matters relating to this contest.

5. The team will then select the TOP 12 BANDS to move forward in the battle. Songs from the 12 BANDS will be made available at post-gazette.com/pittsburghrocks, and the public will vote for their favorite (one vote per e-mail address) from JUNE 2 THROUGH THURSDAY, JUNE 12 AT 5 PM.

6. The three bands with the most votes will be notified by phone and/or e-mail on or about JUNE 13. The top three bands will be asked to perform on the Three Rivers Arts Festival Market Square stage on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Bands unable to perform will be disqualified and alternate bands will be selected based on the voting.

7. PRIZES 1st Place: Headline performance at the Three Rivers Arts Festival on the Market Square Stage on Sunday, June 22, 2008 (time TBD) A professionally produced music video by the post-gazette.com multimedia department. The music video will be a collaborative effort with the band and award-winning videographers Steve Mellon and Matt Freed. Once completed, it will be published at post-gazette.com, which averages nearly 40 million page views a month, and then given to the band for its own publicity purposes.  The winning band will also receive the opportunity to perform at Seven Springs Mountain Resort over the Labor Day weekend, with free lodging accommodations courtesy of Seven Springs.  2nd Place: Opening act performance at the Arts Festival Market Square Stage on Sunday, June 22, 2008 (time TBD) 3rd Place: Opening act performance at the Arts Festival Market Square Stage on Sunday, June 22, 2008 (time TBD).  

8. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and contest sponsors reserve the option to substitute prizes of equal value at their discretion. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

9. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use winner’s name and likeness for commercial purposes without further notice and compensation, unless prohibited by law.

10. Entrants acknowledge and agree that they have entered the contest of their own free will, that the full rules and details of the contest have been made available to them in writing and they therefore understand and agree that the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, contest sponsors, or their agents, affiliates, representatives or employees will have no liability with respect to the contestants’ participation in the contest or winning a prize and are not liable for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind resulting from the participation in this contest or any use of this prize. By entering this contest, participants agree to be bound by these rules and the decision of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and contest sponsors.
